Lenten Discipline and Wednesday Nights During Lent
Ignatius of Loyola is one of the great spiritual teachers of the church, having developed a practice of prayer and Scriptural study that focuses on finding God in the everyday. On Wednesday evenings during Lent, Scott will be the prayer group in a practice of guided prayer and reflection rooted in Igantian spirituality.
The entire church is also invited to take on a lenten discipline of following the “Ignatian Examen,” a short, 15-minute daily prayer ritual. The examen can be thought of as 5-step prayer:
1. Give thanks
2. Ask for the Holy Spirit’s presence
3. Review the day
4. Ask for forgiveness and healing where needed
5. Resolve, in concrete ways, on how to live tomorrow well
To help, you’re invited to use “Reimagining the Ignatian Examen,” by Mark E. Thibodeaux as a guide. This small little book will offer different ways to engage in this brief daily prayer practice. Copies are available in the office for $10, or can be found online.
