"Travelers on a Journey" Church Conversations
Travelers on a Journey, August 6, 13 and 20; church vote to be held following worship onAugust 27
In May, a congregational letter described recent actions taken by the Church Council and Board of Deacons around inclusivity and same-sex marriage. An ad-hoc team has been at work crafting a process to allow the entire church to join the conversation. Travelers on a Journey is that process. Come to listen and to add your voice as we travel this road together. Childcare will be provided for each meeting; please sign up with Julie Long. The first three meetings will take place in the Fellowship Hall.
Sunday, August 6 following worship: Fellow Pilgrims on the Road. We will meet over a potluck lunch. In this first meeting we will share where we are in this question of sexuality and inclusion in the church, and how we got there. We will also talk about the role of Scripture in these matters. BRING YOUR BIBLE!
Sunday, August 13 at 5pm: Walking the Mile, Bearing the Load. For our second meeting, we will meet over supper, which will be provided. This session will center on listening to the testimonies of some of our LGBTQ members and their families. It’s often the case in discussing these “issues” of inclusion, that we fail to remember those present who are most personally affected by them. We want to lift up these voices within our midst.
Sunday, August 20 following worship: Till We've Seen the Journey Through. For our third and final meeting we will once again meet for lunch, this time provided, review what we have heard, and talk about where we will go from here as a congregation. This meeting will move into a called church conference where the formal motion from the Church Council and Deacons will be presented and discussed.
Sunday, August 27 following worship: We will plan to call another church conference to vote on the proposed motion to allow same-sex marriages to be performed in the church. This conference will not include discussion, since time will be made on the 20th.
