We’re thrilled to welcome Suzii Paynter as our guest preacher this Sunday. Suzii is the Executive Coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, our primary missions and identity partner. Prior to joining CBF in March 2013, Paynter served in executive management of the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) as the director of the Texas Baptist Christian Life Commission and as director of the Advocacy Care Center.
Over the past decade, Paynter has gained a national reputation for her advocacy on important ethical issues such as religious liberty, hunger and poverty, human trafficking, immigration reform and the environment. She has been recognized by numerous national religious and secular organizations such as the Sierra Club, American Association of Retired Persons and Samaritan Counseling Centers.
A nationally recognized faith leader and ordained deacon and Sunday school teacher of more than 40 years, Paynter has held positions of leadership in Baptist churches in Texas, Kentucky and Mississippi.
Following worship on Sunday, December 17, Jody Long announced he will be leaving his position of Minister of Youth and Missions here at First Baptist to accept a call to be the Executive Coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Georgia. His last Sunday with us will be January 14. He will begin with CBFGA on February 1.
We will honor Jody’s service to our church and celebrate with him and his family in this exciting opportunity at a lunch following worship on February 4. This was already scheduled to be our Baptist Heritage Sunday (formerly Founders’ Day, which following a recommendation from our Baptist Identity Task Force will be moved to the fall), and Suzii Paynter, Executive
Coordinator of CBF Global, will be our guest preacher. What a blessing for her to be here to help us celebrate Jody.
Bring a covered dish side or dessert to contribute to the potluck-style lunch.
On January 21, we will ordain and install new deacons for the coming year. The congregation will be invited to lay hands upon each ordained. You are encouraged to write notes of blessing for each deacon and bring them to the service as well.

Join us on Sunday, August 6 as we are led in worship by our students, educators and families. As a congregation, we value the role of education in our spiritual and personal formation, and so we will take this opportunity at the beginning of the school year to bless and pray for our students and educators.
Students and educators are invited to bring their backpacks or another symbol of their work for the "Blessing of the Backpacks." We will also recognize our new first graders and present them with a Bible as they graduate from preschool W.O.W. and transition to full-time worship attendance. Please make plans to attend this service.
