FBC Macon

Nurture. Love. Serve. ALL.

We’re proud of our Baptist history and heritage, but we’re also proud of our diversity. At First Baptist you will find a group of people coming from a variety of different church backgrounds and denominations who have found a home at the “top of Poplar.” And while our congregation comes from all over middle Georgia, we are a downtown church and see it is our mission to be the presence of Christ to our InTown and College Hill communities here in Macon.

Simple Decent Housing for Everyone -- Dan Riley

First Baptist Church of Christ has been associated with Macon Area Habitat for Humanity (MAHFH) since this affiliate was incorporated in 1986.  Its members have served in various roles including as board and committee members and as volunteers on Habitat construction sites.  It can safely be said that First Baptist Church has touched every one of the 80 families which Macon Area Habitat for Humanity has served since 1986.  Habitat for Humanity is not a give-away -- we give partner families a “hand up” rather than a “handout.”  Homeowners must meet income and credit requirements; put in a minimum of 300 hours of sweat equity working on their house and the houses of other Habitat homeowners; and, pay back the cost of their house with a no-interest, 20 year mortgage.

Since 2005, MAHFH has served as a catalyst in revitalizing the Lynmore Estates neighborhood in south Macon.  Five of the 25 houses which MAHFH had completed in this neighborhood by the end of 2011 were the result of First Baptist Church’s annual partnership with Mercer University.  This annual partnership continues in 2012 as volunteers and donors from these institutions partner with Mr. Eddie Redding, Jr. to build a decent and affordable home for his family.

Construction on the 2012 First Baptist/Mercer University build began in mid-February with a projected completion date of late May 2012.  Please support this build financially by placing your change into the small house banks which are being provided to every family so that your change can make a great change in Eddie Redding’s life.
